Sự đóng góp của các nghiên cứu khu vực để sự hiểu biết về chính trị thế giới*****The panelists remarks were devoted to three board areas: the organization of regional studies within the academic community, the published results of these studies, and the value of regionalism as a framework of analysis. The session opened with remarks by Mr Wood which were primarily addressed to the organizational considerations. He pointed out that regional or “ are” studies tend to be carried out by the groups of scholars, usually brought together in a “center” devoted to the study of none or more regional areas. This kind of team research, he noted, follow a trend in scholarship generally in the direction as well as a growing interest in questions involving many disciplines and board geographical comparisons. An obvious indicator is the growth in the multiple authorship of scholarly monographs over the past ten years. Within the framework of regional studies, this kind of cooperation and multidisciplinary effort makes possible a far higher level of sophistication of research. A further advantage of the “center” kind of organization is its greater capacity to overcome the growing problems of research in foreign countries, particularly the developing areas. All scholars engaged in research of this kind are aware of the acute nature of this problem, due to the resentment over past mistake, general suspiction of American scholars aboard, and the pressures generated by the enormous increases of field research efforts by American scholars over the past ten years. Such centers of research thus pool not only scholarly expertise but also knowledge of foreign sources, contacts, and hopefully, general goodwill.
