3. Defined Spaces are Desirable

Nooks as I like to call them! I love watching children tuck away into a quiet space when they find a good book, make long curving tracks for cars and trains that wind around blocks, challenging a friend to a game of dominoes and spending hours manipulating clay before adding the final loose parts and paint. Centres and activities should be in a space that allows the child to best learn.

Be considerate of quiet spaces- books, puzzles, listening posts- pair them with soft cushions, draping fabric, natural light and soft music.

Building and small manipulatives go well in a larger area without furniture restrictions- floor space is key as are clipboards nearby for planning, while a shelf for displaying work and name cards is handy!
