Camila nodded quickly. “I like food,” she giggled. “Where are we going?”Lauren pursed her lips and thought for a moment, wanting to explain it as best as she could. “We’re going to… visit… some people that you should know pretty well,” Lauren nodded softly. Camila raised an eyebrow, but didn’t question her further.“C'mon, goofball,” Lauren laughed, pointing out Camila’s shoes to the smaller girl. Camila tugged them on, looking up at Lauren and laughing softly when the girl bent down to help her tie her laces.Camila had plenty of questions as they drove. Lauren tried her best to avoid them, attempting to distract Camila with the radio. Eventually, they arrived at the small park. Camila raised an eyebrow in confusion, but followed Lauren as the girl retrieved their food and led her over to a sunny patch of grass.“This isn’t it,” Lauren laughed softly, noting Camila’s confusion. “We’re just gonna eat here, and then walk the rest of the way.”Lauren laid out the blanket they had brought with them and set the basket down, to which Camila eagerly sat down and dug into the basket. By the time Lauren had sat down, Camila already had taken a bite out of her sandwich. Lauren couldn’t help but laugh when the small girl’s face contorted in disgust.“If you would have waited I would’ve given you the right sandwich,” Lauren teased, switching bags with Camila. “I like spicy mustard.”“Bleh,” Camila mumbled, giggling quietly. She took a bite of the right sandwich, looking up at Lauren and given her a thumbs up. “That is better,” she whispered bashfully, making Lauren laugh even harder. The girls laughed and talked all throughout their lunch, just enjoying the simple time together. The minute Camila finished, though, her mood changed. She was nervous about what was to come. The other two places Lauren had taken her hadn’t exactly been a walk in the park.“Ready?” Lauren took a deep breath, bringing Camila out of her thoughts. The small girl looked up and nodded nervously, tossing her trash back into the basket and allowing Lauren to help her to her feet.“I am nervous,” Camila admitted, biting her lip. She followed Lauren as they walked back to the car to put the basket away.“Don’t be,” Lauren shook her head, locking the car once more and turning around to take Camila’s hands in her own. “It’s not bad, I promise,” she said softly, leaning in and planting a soft kiss on her girlfriend’s lips. “C'mon.”Camila nodded, trusting Lauren enough to quickly follow the girl. They walked for a while through the small park, existing in comfortable silence. The small brunette became curious when a large iron gate appeared in the distance along the path, and she glanced at Lauren when the girl tugged her hand in that direction. Something felt familiar about this place, but she couldn’t quite put a finger on it.Lauren glanced at Camila softly before gently pushing open the gate. The small girl took a nervous step forward, holding onto Lauren’s arm as they walked down a smaller path. When the graves began appearing, the familiarity became even stronger. And then, when Lauren paused in front of two graves, Camila remembered exactly where they were.“I remember,” Camila whispered, looking up at Lauren, who was already looking down at her nervously. “This is Aunt Susie,” she nodded, pointing to one of the graves in front of them. “I used to bring her flowers. Until…” Camila’s voice trailed off as she remembered the painful memory.“Do you know who this is?” Lauren asked tediously, pointing the grave beside her’s. Camila tilted her head to the side, leaning in slightly to read the writing on the tombstone. Her hand tightened around Lauren’s and she nodded quickly.“Tommy,” she whispered, biting her lip and standing closer to her girlfriend.“Hey,” Lauren shook her head. “He can’t hurt you, look,” she motioned to the grass in front of them. “There’s nothing to be afraid of anymore.”
