If needed, it would be possible to give an objective foundation to the classification byconsidering the relative velocity of the liquid at the interface with respect to the masscenter of the vapor figure. If the velocity is approximately normal to the interface, thefigure should be considered as a bubble; then attention is mainly paid to the volumevariation. On the other hand, if the relative velocity is more tangential to the interface, thefigure should be considered as a cavity, in the absence of circulation, or as a cavitatingvortex, in the case of circulation.
