The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and thermogravimetric data showed a higher thermal stability and a lower water loss for modified samples heated at 1201C. The electronic changes
in the Nafion 112 membrane were measured using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), showing that replacing Hþ ions with DTAþ cations increases the electrical resistance of the
modified membrane. The methanol diffusion was reduced approximately 2-fold when Nafion 112 and Nafion 112/DTAþ were compared, benefitting DMFC applications.
