Pierrette LambertPierrette Lambert (born 10 june 1928 in Orches, France) is a French artist. She is known for designing and engraving banknotesand postage stamps.BiographyPierrette Lambert began her studies at the Ecole des Beaux­Arts de Poitiers in 1943. She studies in Paris at the School of designand applied arts trade and industry, then at the Ecole Estienne. She discovers engraving through art miniature. Her works areexhibited at the gallery Ror Volmar in 1957.An exhibition of her miniature gallery Ror Volmar were noticed in 1957 by Guitard, a director of Bank of France in charge of themanufacture of banknotes. Employed by the French central bank, she draws among other banknotes, effigies of Racine (50 francs)and Louis Pasteur (5 francs). Subsequently, she drew the 200 francs Montesquieu in 1981.Her work on banknotes allowed her to submit art for postage stamps. Her first two stamps were issued in 1962 for Saint Pierreand Miquelon: they represent two flowers (Grass pulchellus and Cypipredium acaule). The following year she drew two stamps formetropolitan France: Chateau d'Amboise, engraved by Robert Cami and Saint­Flour, engraved by Claude Durrens.For her stamps, Pierrette Lambert has received several awards including the Grand Prix of Art Philatelic stamps for France,Monaco and three francophone African countries. She twice received the prize of Philatelic Music Circle for the best musicalstamp of the year with three Monegasque stamps in 1987 of Johann Sebastian Bach and Handel, and in 1988 the Bicentennialstamps of the creation of Don Giovanni by Mozart and the 150th Anniversary of the Grande Messe des morts by Berlioz.Her last stamp was issued in France in 1997, after a total of about 1300 stamps.She competed in the design for the euro banknotes, but Robert Kalina's works were selected.
