Spatial Clustering, a.k.a. Hot SpotsOptimally, analysts will use spatial clustering techniques to identify hot spots of overlappingcrashes and crimes. The analysis begins with a global analysis and then proceeds to hot spotidentification. The purpose of the global analysis is two-fold: one to determine if clusteringexists at all in the jurisdiction, and two, to determine how much one cluster [i.e. data group] ismore clustered than the other. Analysis of clusters or hot spots can then give rise to temporalanalysis and the appropriate and efficient deployment of resources.Appendix C, A Framework for Mapping Technology Implementation, gives detailedinformation and suggested procedures on the use of spatial clustering and hot spot evaluationtechniques
