Frequency of Strikes The number of strikes has generally decreased over the last few years according to government records, from 220 strikes in 2002 involving over 97,300 workers to 96 strikes involving 56,000 workers in 2005. A major increase in strike action was reported in 2006 with 282 strikes involving almost 600,000 workers. The Ministry of Manpower has attributed the 2006 increase in strike action to protests against proposed changes to the Manpower Act which were ultimately abandoned.
