The major component of the prenylflavonoids in hops (Fig. 8.12) is the chalcone xanthohumol, first isolated in 1913 although the structure, 6’-O-methyl-3’-prenylchalco- naringenin (8.59), was not worKed out until the 1960z. It iz accompanied by zmaller amountz of the related flavanone isoxanthohumol (8.65, humulol, 5-O-methyl-8- prenylnaringenin)
