Sonogashira Coupling. PdCl2(PPh3)2 (88 mg, 1 mol %) and copper iodide (40 mg, 2 mol %) were

placed in a 50 mL round-bottomed flask equipped with a magnetic bar and then nondried 1,4-dioxane

(10 mL), the corresponding iodide (10 mmol), 4-chloro-1-butyne (1 mL, ~12 mmol, 1.2 equiv), and

triethylamine (345 μL, 2.5 mmol, 5 equiv) were added. The flask was capped with a rubber septum,

and the resulting mixture was placed in a preheated oil bath at 50°C and magnetically stirred for 30

min. One aliquot was taken for GC analysis, and the restwas diluted in diethyl ether (100 mL) after

cooling (the ammonium salt can be observed as crystals in some cases), removing the solids by

filtration. The resulting solution was purified by column chromatography (n-hexane). The

corresponding alkyne product (see below for details). Alkyne 6. The reaction crude was purified by

column chromatography using n-hexane as an eluent. Isolated yield: 1.27 g (70%). R f
