Part 7: Comprehension Part 8: By Ikako: Subtle Things Part 9: Questions Part 10: By Ikako: Resolution Epilogue: Epilogue Asami had left Takaba passed out in his bed, barely able to stand and completely without clothing. With the photographer's extreme distaste for borrowing clothes, Asami had assumed that he would probably remain in the penthouse apartment all day. He had eight times in the past two weeks; ever since his clothes had been accidentally ripped to shreds and Asami had discovered the aversion was a wonderful way to assure he had a naked Takaba to welcome him home. That made seeing him with a woman so much more disconcerting. Though he could think of no reason for the extreme degree of the cold rage that enveloped him as he watched them kiss briefly and walk off with their arms around each other. Nor for the pain that seemed to constrict his heart. The blonde guard who had keyed up the footage kept a careful eye on him, until he was dismissed. He finished examining several reports and then took a sip of his scotch. His chest still hurt, even an hour later. "Find out who she is and where Takaba is now." He finally ordered his personal assistant. Waiting until the man was gone, he smashed his palm against the wall. "That little slut…" He muttered and then pain shot up his left arm. He collapsed, one hand grasping at the alarm on his desk and barely managing to press it. Takaba was juggling his keys and two bags of groceries when a large hand settled on his shoulder."You need to come." The voice was almost a growl. Asami's blonde guard looked very annoyed. And somewhat scared. Takaba blinked and it was gone. He started to ask for an explanation, but he didn't have time as the guard dragged him down the hall and then down the stairs. The waiting car was running and the driver began speeding as soon as they pulled away from the curb."Asami-sama has had a minor heart attack." The guard said. Takaba dropped his groceries onto the seat and stared."What? You're joking?" The man's expression didn't change. "Fuck. You're not. Oh fuck… Is he ok? Where is he and what…"He was cut off. "He's in a private hospital and is resting comfortably. The cause of the heart attack was a combination of his life style and unusual stress. Very unusual stress." Takaba frowned at the pointed look that accompanied the last sentence."I'm sorry, I had something to do with this? I was passed out until noon today and then I had family obligations until just now!" He seethed, but the man looked enlightened."You were spending time with a female relative?" He asked. Takaba nodded. "Yeah, like I tried to tell Asami last night. I had a huge family tea today and then I was supposed to go shopping with my mother and aunts. My cousin got me out of it, because she’s the most wonderful woman in the world… What are you doing?" The huge man had pulled out an ancient cell phone and was tapping the big keys quickly. It looked tiny in his hand, but it seemed to be working. Perhaps it was custom made for his huge hands. "Hey? What are you doing?" The man didn't answer until after he was done. "Sending an important message." That was all he said for the entire rest of the trip. The hospital was very private and very clearly expensive. The metal detectors weren't a problem for him, but the guard removed several knives and two guns before walking through. They were returned and Takaba decided not to ask. Asami's room was guarded by two suited men, but they stepped aside to allow him though. The blonde guard remained outside and Takaba almost asked him why. Shoving aside his sudden nervousness, he opened the door and stepped inside. Asami was lying in the bed. Quiet and pale, even against the white sheets. His ever present cell phone resting on the bed stand was a cry for normality, but it only seemed to emphasize the difference. The normal air of control was gone. Usually perfect black hair was spread over the pillow and Asami looked smaller. Takaba clutched at the doorknob, sending the door back to close.
Golden eyes opened as the door clicked and after a moment, Asami gestured imperiously. Takaba walked closer to the bed and then yelped as his wrist was grabbed and he was pulled down to sprawl along Asami's side. Suddenly everything seemed much more normal.
"You should have stayed in my apartment." The older man growled. Takaba glared.
"I told you last night! I had family obligations. Are you alright?" He debated with himself for a moment and then leaned forward and nestled closer, resting his head on the broad chest. Asami raised an eyebrow, but then pulled him closer. He could hear the heart beat. It sounded slow.
"Are you really going to be alright?" Takaba asked. Asami began stroking his hair.
"Yes. I have to make a few lifestyle changes, but it was relatively minor. If I stop smoking, there is a very good chance I'll never have another one."
Takaba nodded and relaxed. Then he began shaking slightly. Asami frowned and tightened his arms.
"I…you…" Takaba didn't finish. He moved even closer and stayed. Asami smiled faintly and closed his eyes.
The doctor didn't react to finding a man in bed with his patient the next morning and quickly looked over several reports and asked simple questions.
"Alright. Asami-san, you are free to return to your home in two days. No strenuous activities of any type for the next week. After that, I’ll arrange a gradual increase schedule. Most importantly, however, is that you avoid all stress and stop smoking. The elimination of smoking alone makes it very unlikely for you to have another attack after six months. But do not forget the stress aspects. Leave business to your assistants for as long as possible and avoid whatever it was that catalyzed this time." The man bowed at Asami's nod and thanks and left. Takaba looked at the door and then rose.
“I have to go. I need to develop some pictures and change my clothes.”
"You may go, but return by tonight." Asami said after a focused stare into his eyes. Takaba started to argue, but then remembered the doctor's orders.
"Fine.” He started to walk out, but Asami caught his wrist and stole a kiss before he could get too far.
Asami began as usual on his phone at two o’clock, bored to death of simply sitting around. The habitual threatening and manipulation was calming and relaxing. Far more so than watching the clock and wondering where Takaba was. It was only four in the afternoon and he had people watching Takaba at every turn. He should not be so worried.
He had not even considered the possibility that Takaba would take another lover until the previous day. Takaba was not willing to admit yet who he belonged to, but he understood their relationship. Or Asami had thought.
Cursing, he dialed a number. He could not believe he was acting like this.
“Yes, Asami-sama?” The voice was unstressed and that was good.
“Where is he?”
“He’s been in his apartment on his computer for the past two hours. Before that, he dropped several envelopes off and picked up groceries.” Asami thought and glanced at the laptop that one of his assistants had dropped off earlier.
“Bring him here now. And after you get him here, have his apartment packed up and move everything to mine.”
Takaba wasn’t surprised when the guard showed up at four-thirty. He had noticed the man following him as he went on his errands. He grabbed the small bag he had packed and patiently allowed himself to be led out to limo and driven back to the hospital. They walked down the hall and past the metal detectors, but before they could turn down the appropriate hallway, the doctor from the morning materialized suddenly beside them. He smiled at the guard and placed a hand on Takaba’s arm.
“I need a private word with the young man, please.” He said. The guard frowned and shook his head. Takaba rolled his eyes and stepped away from the hand.
“What? He’s not going to leave.” He said.
The doctor smiled. “You’re clever. Good. You must make sure that Asami-sama ceases smoking. And daily cardio is probably the best way to re-strengthen his heart. I believe that you can ensure that as well. But nothing for at least a week and then be very careful for the next month.” Takaba managed to nod without screaming and the doctor looked pleased. He bowed again and walked off. The guard watched him go and made no move to leave.
“Hey?” Takaba final asked, directing his anger at being marked Asami’s whore at the guard. The guard jumped with a grunt. The doctor turned and raised an eyebrow before winking. Takaba almost gaped as the guard turned bright pink.
Rolling his eyes, he stalked by himself down the hall and into Asami’s room.
Asami had just finished a call as the door opened and an angry Takaba stormed in. There was something reserved about the rage and then it all was suppressed at the gold eyes looked towards him.
“You said I could come tonight.” He said and walked over, dropping onto the bed. Asami set his cell phone on the bed stand and shifted down, making space above his head.
“I’ve come to dislike sleeping alone recently.” Takaba frowned and then kicked off his shoes to settle against the headboard. Asami waited until he had situated himself and then moved back so that his shoulders were resting on top of Takaba’s thighs. He reached over and picked up the laptop, setting it on his stomach.
