Sample size formulas cannot be used for nonprobability samples. Determining the sample

size for nonprobability samples is usually a subjective, intuitive judgment made by the

researcher based on either past studies, industry standards, or the amount of resources

available. Regardless of the method, the sampling results cannot be used to make sta-
tistical inferences about the true population parameters. Researchers can compare spe-
cific characteristics of the sample, such as age, income, and education, and note that the

sample is similar to the population. But the best that can be offered is a description of the

sample findings.
