From the research, the original native name of Awudua is
Awodua. The native place name Awodua literally means ‘‘childbirth enabling tree’’, and takes its origin from a very potent tree
believed to have existed in the town. The bark of this tree, used as
medicine by the people, made the women fertile and thus enabled
the people to give birth to children. This fertility tree, therefore,
spawned the name of the town, Awodua, which, when broken
down, consists of two Akan morphemes: ‘‘Awo’’ or childbirth, and
‘‘dua’’, which means tree. Awodua as a place name is, therefore,
commendatory.
