4.1.2.2. Ammonia. Ammonia (NH3) is a refrigerant with high latentheat of evaporation and high thermal conductivity, its operating pressure is high (0.5e5 bar) [28]. It can be used for cold productionin a wide range of temperatures (50 C to 10 C), so it can be usedin different cooling applications.4.1.2.3. Water. Water (H2O) has good thermal properties and lowoperating pressure from 20 mbar to 80 mbar [28]. Its temperaturerange of cold production is reduced (0e10 C), so it cannot beapplied in freezing applications.4.1.2.4. Ethanol. Ethanol (C2H6O) can be also used as an adsorbate. It has a higher vapour pressure than water. It is characterized bylow latent heat of vaporization and low thermal conductivitycompared to Methanol. However, it can be utilized for differentcooling applications [29].4.2. Performance indicatorsIn order to effectuate the performance analysis, it is necessary todetermine the cycle characterizing temperatures of the adsorbentbed during the day. Accordingly, the thermal behaviour of themetallic wall of the adsorbent bed was investigated based on thefollowing assumptions: An integrated configuration is studied as can be seen in Fig. 1(b) An ideal adsorption cycle is considered The temperature inside the adsorbent is uniform and varies withtime The cycle characterizing temperatures are directly deducedfrom the thermal behaviour of the metallicwall of the adsorbentusing a simple correlation
