7.6.1.2 Environmental LimitationsAnother limiting factor for operations that produce fish meal, fertilizers, or other products is the requirement for additional energy costs and a corresponding increase in air emissions. Large operations that generate their own electricity and operate under an air quality permit may find that the requirements for recovering more waste solids are in conflict with permitted limitations for air pollution. The controls to prevent excess air emissions can be costly and can therefore negate the financial benefit of recovering more fish solids.
