Welcome to Steinberg Cubase Studio 4

Congratulations and thank you for purchasing Cubase Studio 4. This document includes important information about installing and using Cubase 4 on your PC or Mac.

Please read the following information carefully.


IMPORTANT:
Read the Software Licensing Contract displayed on your screen when installing Cubase Studio 4. By installing the software or sending back the registration card, you are declaring yourself to be in agreement with the conditions in the contract. If you want to read the Software Licensing Contract independently from the installation process, or if you want to print the contract, you'll find the text file on the DVD in the 'Additional Content/License' directory. This directory contains several text files, but you just need to open the file, which contains your preferred language.

INSTALLATION:
Please read the installation instructions, which are part of the printed “Getting Started” manual and the PDF manual of the same name. This manual contains all the information you need for getting Cubase Studio 4 installed and running.

Installation process:
Please make sure that the USB dongle that comes with Cubase Studio 4 is NOT attached to your computer when installing. Attach it after the software installation in order to prevent your operating system from any attempts to install a USB driver. The Cubase Studio 4 installation will install the proper driver.
Depending on your Windows/Mac settings, the setup program on the DVD may start automatically. If no start-up screen appears, double-click on the DVD icon in the "My Computer" window. In the start- up screen click "Install" in the Start-up window and follow the onscreen instructions.


PROBLEMS WITH COPY PROTECTION DEVICE (DONGLE) of Cubase Studio 4:
On the DVD go to the directory “Additional Content/Copy Protection Driver” and execute the file „SyncrosoftLicenseControlSetup“ in case you are experiencing any problems with the Cubase Studio 4 copy protection device. Alternatively, you can download this software directly from the Syncrosoft website (www.syncrosoft.com).


ISSUES IN CUBASE STUDIO 4
To learn about any known issues with Cubase Studio 4, please take note of the file "Issues and Solutions Cubase Studio 4”, which is located in the "Read Me Files" folder. Always check for Cubase Studio 4 updates first, since many of the listed issues will be solved in upcoming Cubase Studio 4 versions.


CUBASE 5.x SONG IMPORT
Please take note that importing of Cubase 5.x songs is no longer supported in Cubase Studio 4. When you’re updating from Cubase SL and still need to import songs from Cubase 5.x, please do not uninstall Cubase SL. You can import your Cubase 5.x songs into Cubase SL, resave them as Cubase SL projects and open those in Cubase Studio 4.


CUBASE SL3 COMPATIBILITY
Cubase Studio 4 comes with a new audio effects plug-in set. This set includes both all-new plug-ins, as well as plug-ins previously used with Cubase SL. Some Cubase SL plug-ins are no longer installed. When you’re not updating from Cubase SL and need to import SL songs, make sure to copy the content from the “Additional Content/Additional Cubase SL Plugins” folder to any suitable directory on your hard drive. Then use the “VST2.x plug-in paths” option (Devices > Plug-in Information) to select this folder. Next, click “Update” to activate the plug-ins.


MIDI PORT FILTER - IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING MIDI INTERFACES (Windows only)
To find out about the details of the new MIDI port filter, which removes redundant MIDI ports, please refer to the file “MIDI Port Filter” located in the "Read Me Files" folder on this DVD.


REX FILE SUPPORT (OSX only)
If you want to use REX Files with Cubase Studio 4 for MacOS X please install the Propellerheads REX Support manually. This is only necessary if you did not already install the Propellerheads ReCycle or Reason application. The REX Shared Library can be found on the Cubase Studio 4 DVD (Folder “Additional Content/Installer Data”) or downloaded here: http://www.propellerheads.se/download.
