Ipv6 traffic from the Ipv6-Only Node Based on the receipt of the DNS name query response with the constructed IPv6 addresses, the IPv6-only node uses address selection to determine the IPv6 address pairs with which to initiate communication.Step 1: Initial Packet from the IPv6-Only NodeThe IPv6-only node sends the first packet to initiate communication. Using a TCP connection as an example, the IPv6-only node sends a TCP SYN segment from its IPv6 address to an IPv6 address received in the DNS name query response, using the appropriate source and destination TCP ports. Figure 16-3 shows the initial IPv6 packet from the IPv6-only node.Source IPv6 Address: IPv6-Only NodeDestination IPv6 Address: IPv6-Mapped Address of the IPv4-Only NodeSource TCP Port: Chosen by the Sending ApplicationDestination TCP Port: IPv4-Only Node Listening ApplicationIPv6-OnlyNodeIPv4-OnlyNodeIPv6 PacketFIGURE16-3 The initial IPv6 packet. When DNS64/NAT64 receives the packet, it selects an unused translation port and creates an entry in its translation table for the following:■ ■ IPv6 address This is the IPv6 address of the IPv6-only node.■ ■ Original port This is the TCP port on the IPv6-only node, chosen by the sending application.■ ■ Mapped IPv4 address This is an IPv4 address assigned to the sending interface when sending traffic to the IPv4 address corresponding to the last 32 bits of the destination address of the packet (the IPv4 address of the IPv4-only node). This is based on the use of 96-bit prefix.■ ■ Mapped port This is the selected translation port.Step 2: translated IPv4 Packet to the IPv4-Only NodeNAT64/DNS64 translatesthe payload and creates an IPv4 packet with the following:■ ■ Source IPv4 address From the translation table entry, an IPv4 address assigned to NAT64/DNS64. This IPv4 address enforces the return of IPv4 traffic to the correct NAT64 device.■ ■ Destination IPv4 address From the last 32 bits of the destination address of the original IPv6 packet (the IPv4 address of the IPv4-only node).
