Take-off was the main response, and most take-offs occuredduring the first seconds after the onset of the CS (Table 1 and Fig. 3a).The take-off response was especially dominant in Group 2, in whichmost of the fish swam near the surface after take-off. Group 1 alsoresponded with bottom-swim, which occurred more often throughoutthe CS than pre-CS (Table 1 and Fig. 3a). The rate of repositionsduring the CS did not differ from pre-CS level (Table 1 and Fig. 3a).In contrast to in the delay groups, the number of motionless fishin the control groups increased slightly throughout the CS (Table 1and Fig. 3b). None of the three behavioural patterns occured at ahigher rate during the CS than pre-CS (Table 1 and Fig. 3b).
