Information systems are used to organize and manage the manufacturing environment,
and to deliver manufacturing information in a useful and timely fashion to various subsystems of manufacturing to create dynamic enterprises. An efficient enterprise resources
planning system will help to increase the productivity in manufacturing and improve profits
and market share applications. There are a number of manufacturing planning system
packages and enterprise resource planning systems available today for a wide range of
micro, mini and main frame installations from various vendors. This chapter deals with the
segments of manufacturing resource planning and introduces ERP, dynamic enterprise
modeling and supply chain management.
