In Australia copyright is enshrined in the Commonwealth Copyright Act 1968, and a number of subsequent amendments such as the Copyright Amendment (Digital Agenda) Act 2000 and the Copyright Amendment (Moral Rights) Act 2000, and the Copyright Amendment Act 2006.
If a piece of work, or a substantial part of it, is to be reproduced, performed, adapted or otherwise used publicly, permission of the copyright owner is required. In a situation where someone wants to use material but does not know the identity of the copyright owner, a number of agencies can help.
