File > Merge
This command allows you to combine one or more .CAM files with an existing design database. Only .CAM files can be merged and become a single object in the database, and cannot be edited unless it is exploded into raw data. This object can be exploded if edits are necessary.
Command Sequence:
Select File > Merge. Choose the desired .CAM file from the Open dialog box that appears.
If you have already merged in the file that you chose, a warning box appears. Click Yes if you want to merge in a new copy of the file. This is useful if you have made a change to the file and want to merge in the updated data. Click No if you want to only merge in an exact copy of the file that was already merged into the database (works the same as Edit > Copy).
After you have selected the file, the Layer Mapping dialog box appears.
The name of the file that you are merging appears in its title bar. The merged-in layer Numbers, Names, and Types are presented on the left side of the dialog box.
You can map these layers to the master database by choosing the master's layers from the Map To Layer drop-down lists. If the layer types have been designated for each of the designs, the system automatically chooses to map each layer of the merged-in file to the corresponding layer types in the master file. If the merged-in file contains layer types that are not present in the master file, a new layer will be created.
OR
If you want to map the layers by the Layer Number, regardless of the type of layer, click the By Num button. New layers are created only if the merged-in database contains more layers than the master database. Note that the layer types of the master database will remain the same for the resulting merged database, regardless of whether the layer types of the merged-in database are different.
If you make any changes, then decide to return to the system default mapping, just click the Default button at the bottom of the dialog box.
After you have determined that the mapping is correct, click the OK button. The dialog box closes and a box that encloses the extents of the .CAM design attaches to the cursor. The origin of the incoming design will align with the cursor.
Drag the cursor to the desired location, and click the left button to place the data to be merged.
If you have any drill tools in the merged-in .CAM file that are the same size as drill tools in the master file, a Drill Map Report dialog box appears. It tells you the number of the merged-in drill tool, its size, and what the corresponding drill tool number is in the master database. This eliminates redundant drill tools in your drill table.
Note: Only the tagged border layer A continuous board outline on a layer tagged as "Border". There should be nothing else on this layer. The border data are used to determine where venting starts and stops. is drawn in a merged file. This saves editing time during edits like Copy and Move as the entire merged database is not highlighted. The internal details of the merged database can be seen by changing the Settings > View Options.
