This study focuses on six English final consonants which are not permitted in the syllablefinal position in Vietnamese. The influence of the native language is thought to affect theproduction of English final consonants among Vietnamese speakers, who have a much smallerrange of permitted final syllable consonants. This research examines the production of finalconsonants of Vietnamese English language learners. The subjects, four students studying atHanoi University in Vietnam, were provided a wordlist and reading passage to be read aloud andrecorded. These recordings were sent via email to the researchers who then analyzed therecordings. When reading from the wordlist the subjects most often replaced the final consonantsound with another sound, whereas the most common error found in the reading of the passagewas neglecting to pronounce a final consonant at all. Keywords: Vietnamese language learners, final con
