Building an Internet Ecosystem
India’s Internet economy accounts for over
3% of GDP, yet the Internet ecosystem is still
heavily concentrated in Bangalore, the
epicentre of software services development.
India contributes more than two-thirds of all
IT services imported by developed countries
from developing countries, and Bangalore
accounts for just over one-third of these.16
India has been taking steps to broaden the
ecosystem nationally, and that has become a
key objective of the Modi government’s
Digital India programme.
