Related industriesWodd is currently involved in the services andproducts as mentioned in the sections above. However, there are a number of avenues theycould branch into, due to the variety and diversitythe forest industry presents. Some of the mostviable industries are listed below:BiomassBiomass is biological material derived from living, or recently living organisms. In the context of biomass as a resource for making energy, it most often refers to plants or plant-based materials which are not used for food or feed. As an energy source, biomass can either be used directly via combustion to produce heat, or indirectly after converting it to various forms of biofuel.Conversion of biomass to biofuel can be achieved by different methods which are broadly classified into: thermal, chemical, and biochemical methods. Wood remains the largest biomass energy source to date; examples include forest residues (such as dead trees, branches and tree stumps), yard clippings, wood chips and evenmunicipal solid waste.Real world comparison - EuroforestWhilst traditionally, low quality roundwood has been used for biomass, the real gains of recent years have been in the use of the brash and non-harvested stem wood from the top of the tree that often went to waste - being burned at the felling site or simply ploughed under. This ‘virgin’ fuel also has the important added advantage of avoiding the need for the complex, expensive waste incineration licensing process required for most recycled fuels. Timber can a
