Pretreating intact stem and petiole

Pretreating intact stem and petiole tissues with ethylene or ethephon has been shown to cause an inhibition of auxin transport (BEY73001, BUR73591, MOR66045, PAL69059, SUT88795) (see Figure 5.2.). No inhibition of trans­port was observed if normal petiole or stem sections were used and transport experiments were performed in the presence of ethylene (ABE66946, BUR67224, OSB69977). Workers who have performed both pretreatment and concurrent transport experiments have observed this differential effect of eth­ylene on auxin transport (OSB69977, BUR67224, WOO85340). The effect of ethylene pretreatment is reversible and translocation returns to normal after the plants are returned to air (BEY73001).
