Avoiding Blooper 40
Focus the user interface strictly on the tasks
Design your application’s user interface according to a conceptual model that
includes only objects, actions, and attributes from the application’s target tasks
(Basic Principle 2, page 18). Be wary of foreign concepts creeping into the
UI. Create, maintain, and enforce a product lexicon to uncover discrepancies
between the UI and the conceptual model.
Design for the convenience of users, not of developers
Make a strong commitment to design the user interface for the convenience
of users, not of programmers. Developers tend to design for their own convenience. What separates exceptional UI designers and developers from most
is a commitment to overcome that tendency—to put users’ requirements first.
Management can of course help.
