RIt is engaged in the lingual sheath on the palatal aspect of the upper molar. For the correction of molar rotation, if it is rotated in mesiolingual fashion, the horizontal stub of the rotated side is grasped with the Weingart pliers and the index finger of the other hand is used to push the arch posteriorly till it lies somewhere near the second molar region of the opposite side. This is then engaged into the palatal sheaths, thus a rotational movement is produced on the same size and a derotation will help gain arch length of 1-2mm. This movement is usually achieved by rotating the upper molar in a distolingual direction around the lingual root. Subsequent activation of the opposite side is done six to eight weeks later.
