Several processes greatly contributed to the total environmental
impact. By far the largest contributor for all impact categories
except AP was the production of animals on the farm, mainly due to
feed production. This result agrees with other LCA studies involving
broiler chicken (Baumgartner et al., 2008; Bengtsson and Seddon,
2013; da Silva et al., 2012; Katajajuuri, 2007; Pelletier, 2008;
Wiedema et al., 2008; Williams et al., 2006). It is important to
note, however, that only some of these studies (Bengtsson and
Seddon, 2013; da Silva et al., 2012; Katajajuuri, 2007; Widema
et al., 2008) included the slaughtering stage.
