Topic 11: The advocates of international aid believe that countries have a moral obligation to help each other, while the opponents consider it unnecessary, because money is misspent by the governments that receive it. Discuss these two points of view and give your opinion.

It is believed that every individual human being is meant to help one another in any possible way, especially those in needs. Such principle is much more morally true on the global scale, which holds that strong nations should reach their helping hand to those with less fortunate fate. Nevertheless, some people oppose the stance stating that the monetary aids are often misused by the receiving states, making such assistance a waste of public money. Nonetheless, it is the view of the author that governments should continue to advocate international aid for the reasons below.

First of all, those countries which suffer disturbance such as civil war or natural disasters are imperatively in need of help. Such tragedies are daunting setbacks which would enormously hinder the involved country’s recovery and development. It is not an exaggeration to say that receiving any foreign aids during these crisis times are most appreciated and valuable. Thus, mutual help among nations is not only considered an ethical act but also a practical support for disadvantaged states to regain their strength.

Admittedly, the capital stream that flows into needy nations is not always well-managed to the expectation of its contributors. For instance, often the impoverished countries that receive international aid are governed by a venal and corrupted regime that abuses the free money they get. Nevertheless, these incidents are frequently isolated events that shall not be generalized and daunt any future aid. On the contrary, such phenomenon would regularly raise public awareness which put opposing pressure on the matter.

From what has been discussed above, one can reach a conclusion that the role of humanitarian relief is not only to deliver urgent assistance to populations in need but also potentially tackle corruptions and immoral behaviors.
