Ở Đức, phong cách mới được gọi là Jugendstil sau khi tạp chí nghệ thuật mới fugend (thanh niên), trong đó đẩy mạnh các xu hướng mới nhất. Jugendstil được mani- fested trong hai phiên bản riêng biệt. Phiên bản đầu tiên, phổ biến trước năm 1900, đã bị ảnh hưởng bởi chủ nghĩa natural-, nghệ thuật Nhật Bản, và phong cách hoa Anh.
