Gold prices are lower and notched a three-week low in early U.S. trading Thursday, on follow-through selling pressure in the wake of bearish FOMC minutes released Wednesday afternoon. An appreciating U.S. dollar following the FOMC minutes is also working against the precious metals markets bulls. June Comex gold futures were last down $23.50 an ounce at $1,250.90. July Comex silver was last down $0.602 at $16.53 an ounce.

(The disparity between the daily price change in the gold futures market and the cash market is due to the Comex futures market officially closing Wednesday, before the FOMC minutes were released—while the cash market continued to trade Wednesday after the FOMC minutes report was out.)
