The vertical axis wind turbine model illustrated in Figure 2 pertains to a current prototype. Aprototype was developed based on the above specifications and characteristics. The prototype operatesat speeds between 30 rpm and 200 rpm with a wind speed of 30 mph. These specifications arethe normal operating condition for this prototype. However, recently it was determine that this prototypeexperiences mechanical failures. The mechanical failures are within the vertical blades. Thesix vertical blades are the components within the turbine where signs of mechanical failure havebegun to appear. It was thought that the blades structural failure occurred due to poor manufacturing. The prototype was rebuilt with the new set of blades. However, within a short time, the newturbine the blades repeated structural failures similar to those previously observed. These mechanicalfailures reoccurred within the turbine even though the turbine operated at normal conditions. After carefully observing this prototype it was decided that in order to decipher these structural failures, the prototype’s dynamic characteristics were going to be analysed. The following section detailsthe dynamic analysis performed on this vertical axis wind turbine.
