The five-factor model of personality (Barrick & Mount, 1991) has become the dominantparadigm in organizational behavior and related fields (e.g., industrial and organizationalpsychology). Of the five personality traits, conscientiousness has shown the most promise interms of predicting individual performance. Conscientiousness refers to the degree to whichan individual is dependable (i.e., careful, thorough, responsible, and organized), hardworking, achievement oriented, and persevering. Several independent studies have concluded thatthere is a positive relation between conscientiousness and multiple operationalizations of jobperformance (Barrick & Mount, 1991; Barrick et al., 2001; Organ & Ryan, 1995).
